As an organization Discovery Place seeks to create positive change in our communities by building a science-literate, engaged population. Thanks to our funders, we are making strides toward this vision and have awarded full scholarships to more than 460 deserving individuals for our various programs since the summer of 2020.

This year Discovery Place seeks to award a number of full scholarships for students in grades Pre-K – 12 to our camps, classes and workshops. To be considered, applicants must qualify in one of the following ways:

  • Applicant qualified for free or reduced lunch program for the 2021-22 school year
  • Applicant is currently part of the foster care system
  • Applicant or guardian is enrolled in a food assistance program (EBT or WIC for NC/SC residents)
With the assistance of our generous funders, Discovery Place is working diligently to expand access to our program offerings by offering scholarships for K-12 students. All students should have access and exposure to relevant and fun STEM opportunities, so we are doing our part to make it happen.

FAQs

  • How do I apply for a scholarship?

    Anyone interested in applying for a scholarship must complete and online application and submit the required supporting documents. Applications are not considered complete without documents.

  • Which supporting documents do I include with my application?

    While each family situation is unique, the following are acceptable supporting documents: EBT/WIC Card, free or reduced meal qualification or evidence that you are with a program that solely works with low-income residents such as the housing authority.

  • How are applications processed?

    Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis in the order received once all required documents have been submitted. Priority is given to lower-income families.

  • How long will take to process my application?

    Application processing times may vary depending on the volume of applications Discovery Place receives for a particular program.

  • What are the next steps if my application is approved?

    A member from the Discovery Place sales team will send a confirmation email with additional information regarding registration, policy and procedures, essential functions, etc.

  • What if I’m unable to attend a program after receiving a scholarship?

    If awarded a scholarship, students are required to attend the programs for which they are scheduled. Excessive unexcused absences may jeopardize a student’s chance to enroll in future programs.

  • Do all applicants receive a scholarship?

    By completing the scholarship application, you are not guaranteed a scholarship.
